Spotted Rex

Rex dalmatian
Comparison with
a dog Dalmatian

General information :

Of all Rex of color, the dalmatien belongs to the most recent varieties. For this rabbit, the required drawing must approach that as much as possible the dog dalmatian, drawing which one can also find in the horse or the mouse. Contrary to rabbit, the unicoloured dog dalmatian or little marked (chaplins in rabbit) has vitality necessary to survive and can be used as reproducer, which is not the case in rabbit. At this last, only the subjects heterozygotes present these marks, which still represents an additional difficulty to obtain well marked subjects. The marks must have a good intensity of colour, to be pure and not to have neither hairs nor white tufts inside those, only the ears can be frays. This contrast of color is much more visible in rabbit with short hair (Rex) that at that with normal hair. Contours also forms are more visible at Rex than in another rabbit, which is likely to give him a general aspect somewhat different from that of its brothers and sisters to normal hair. The generally recognized colors are : black, blue, Havana, deer, scaled (Madagascar)

Standardic Descriptions :

The color of cover is white with coloured marks as intense as possible and without mixture of other colors. The ears can be invaded of white. The spots of dimension from approximately 1,5 to 2,5 cm in diameter (max 3,5) are distributed most irregularly possible on the whole of the body. They are wished on the chest, legs and belly. These spots should never point out the drawing of the rabbit butterfly and must be at least 5 on each side. The eyes are of brown color at the blacks, Havana, deer and blue gray at the blue variety. The nails are depigmented except if they are in a coloured space. A nail coloured at a subject does not harm of anything the value of this one.

Genetic of dalmatian :

Rex dalmatian tricolor

General information :

The tricolour dalmatian is a very interesting variety; it impassions the unconditional ones of Rex as well as the other stockbreeders. Its origin and its creator are ignored enough, but what one can say it is that it does not result from the Yugoslav province of the same name. One can consider that it is Switzerland which was its cradle. In France this beautiful variety is fairly raised and selected.

Standardic description :

The drawing of the head, as that of the whole of the body is made up many small spots from 1,5 to 2,5 cm in diameter of black or yellow color. The maximum diameter that one can tolerate for this variety is 5 cm. Sometimes in practice, one authorizes spots of 7 cm X 3 cm what, despite everything, is not to encourage the too small spots just like resembling the English butterflies. The distribution of the spots is most irregular possible on the whole of the body. Symmetrical and successive spots on the back, not attached, are to be regarded as a light defect. Attached, they form a dorsal line and are of this fact disqualified. The goal to seek is to have spots on the chest, the legs and on the belly; but this belonged to the difficulties of this variety. Some white hairs or of another color (black or yellow) inside the marks are regarded as light defects. The black or yellow spots must be of a real intensity. The nails are depigmented except if they are in a coloured zone. The eyes are brown chestnut.

Serious Defects :

Importance :

Fairly widespread variety but of very satisfactory quality. The experiment proved that the best means to arrive at a satisfactory result is the practice of the breeding in consanguinity supported by a very severe selection.

Rex "hollandais"

General information :

Rare but very captivating variety, this rabbit does not profit unfortunately yet from a significant circle of breeders. The first work goes back to approximately 5 years. They were born from the combination of a black "hollandais" rabbit with normal hair and of an albino rex. For the continuation of his selection, one used "hollandais" rabbits mottled coming from broods of dalmatians and lastly the Beaver was used for the improvement of quality of the fur. Currently, the level is very satisfactory and among the batches presented as well at the last championship of France 98 with the S/Foron Rock as with the Luxembourg main road, of excellent results were recorded. As at other rare varieties, Dutch Rex would like to widen its circle of experts; there is only in Belgium where it tries to develop.

Standardic description :

As at other Rex of color, it is the standard of the Beaver which is used as reference for all that milked with conformation, the type and the fur

Color : The principal colors recognized in rabbit are allowed (except silver plated) provided that they are pure and of a good intensity. The eyes are color appropriate to peeling; the nails are depigmented. The marks are consisted the white parts, namely :

The list : Surface depigmented including the muzzle and extending on the chamfer in the shape from lengthened cone.

The collar : depigmented zone which extends on all the front-axle unit, embracing the forefeet, covering the chest and surrounding the neck. It is limited by a regular vertical line which passes from the back to the belly.

Cuffs : Depigmentation on the basis of the end of the posterior legs and covering approximately half their length.

Rex "Hotot"

General information :

The first work on the selection of Rex Hotot began in 1987 by the crossing from a female Rex dalmatian and a "Hotot" male to normal hair. By coupling between them the young people of the first generation (F1), was born a Rex rabbit with glasses but with entirely black ears. For the continuation of the selection, one used this Rex with glasses with black ears which one crossed with white Rex . This result gave 8 young people of which a female with very beautiful quite black glasses including the color of their. It is at the beginning of this well typified female that excellent results were obtained.

Standardic description :

The overall color is of an immaculate whiteness, only a black pilous edge of approximately 3mm, called glasses, circle each?il the eyes and the lashes are noir?res. The nails are depigmented.

Importance :

This rabbit deserves our attention. It would not be necessary that in a few years the French breeders fold back themselves on In addition to the Rhine to go to seek what is offered to them on their premises today.

Rex tricolor "papillon rhénan"

General information :

In addition to tricolour the dalmatian, we have also tricolour "Rhénan". It is a relatively young variety which was created in Germany by Mr. Welter at the beginning of the Seventies. The primitive goal followed by the creator was obtaining a blue "papillon" gold. The animals used for this purpose were the "papillon rhénan" and blue Rex. The results obtained at the beginning of these crossings were satisfactory side drawing but the colors missed intensity clearly and were not that colours pastel, i.e. an insipid blue and a diluted yellow. This variety was rejected by the commission of the standards and is as well as the creator moved towards the "papillon rhénan". Currently, still some difficulties in the selection of this variety remain: drawing of the head and purity of the colors.

The defects most commonly met are :

Standardic Description :

The description of this Rex is identical to that of this rabbit except that one or the other of the spots of cheek can adhere to this last at the base of the ears. The spots on the belly, the chest or the legs are not to take into account. The intensity of the colors must be present.

Light defects :

Defects identical to those of this rabbit to normal hair, to see however remarks above concerning the circle.

Serious defects :

Identical to those of this rabbit to normal hair. Color of the nails other than prescribed.

Importance :

Far from widespread but let us guarantee that in some time, this beautiful variety will populate our exposures.
